We Only Have Today

Stop dwelling in the past! Recently I was talking to a friend and we were thinking about the past and decisions we made (or didn't make), about the way we treated some people, and the things we may have missed out on because of it. This conversation reminded me of a quote from that same friend.

“Find a goal or something that inspires you! (Heaven is that goal) And strive towards it with your whole being. When you find that something you will want to run through a wall, and not only will you not break stride, but you will accelerate on and beg for the next barrier to stand in your way so you can strive past that one and accelerate further to the next, and continue on like this until you reach the peak! When you reach that peak you can look down at the rubble of all the obstacles you broke through to get where you are, and You will thank them for their attempt to stop you. You will then look to the horizon and realize that you're not finished yet! GOD will place another mountain in your way and ask you to climb it! And because of your past work and dedication, you won't stop climbing until you die! You will never reach the top, and this is because you must leave a mountain for the next motivated soul to conquer and strive through. Only then is your battle finished! Only then will you have won the battle. only then will you be able to look our lord in the face and be truly happy.”

This quote has little to do with the past, but a lot to do with the future. Why do we sometimes look at the past and beat ourselves up? The truth is, we cannot change our past, we can only learn from it. Use your past to help set the future. What did you not like about yourself? What was not helping you become the best possible version of yourself? Stop doing those things! Try as hard as you can. You will fail once in a while, but keep trying. Ask the Lord to guide you and eventually you will break down that wall and look back at it as if it was nothing because the next will be even harder. Be a Saint! Saints are people who kept going, kept trying. Yes, they did fall sometimes, but they never gave up. Saints keep trying no matter how hard it gets. Sometimes you will want to give up. Don’t!

“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”

A lot of times I find myself praying, thinking, and planning for my future. Often, I say things like not until this is over or I will once school starts, because maybe then I will have more free time, maybe then I will be able to. However, we all (myself included), are called to present to the people we are with today. We are all called to be the best we can be at this moment. We need to stop planning so much for tomorrow and live in today because once it’s gone it is not coming back. All you will have are the memories of it. The memories are going to have the feelings you were feeling at that time. Choose to make them good. I need to start living in today, trying my hardest in today, and becoming the best me I can be, even if every day is going to bring new challenges and struggles.

Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Just my thoughts
Go with God
